Summary

Traditional metalworking craft that shapes vessels by hammering copper sheets with tools such as hammers. Produces copper pots, decorative items, etc.

Description

Coppersmiths anneal raw materials such as copper sheets or copper products and use hammers and chisels to hammer out shapes. While inheriting traditional techniques, they create thicknesses and curves suited to designs and uses. The manufacturing process consists of material preparation, heating and annealing, rough hammering, finishing hammering, deburring, polishing, and chemical treatment or patina (verdigris) application as needed. Delicate work requires high concentration, accuracy, and skilled senses. Mainly work in workshops or ateliers, small factories, handling diverse needs such as custom orders, mass-produced goods, repairs, and restorations.

Future Outlook

Demand is shrinking due to industrial mechanization, but niche demands in traditional crafts, high-end interiors, restoration needs, tourism experiences, etc., are expected to persist. Prospects through design fusion and overseas market development.
