Description

Orthoptists are nationally qualified medical technologists who, under the instructions of ophthalmologists, conduct visual function evaluations such as visual acuity tests, refraction tests, ocular alignment tests, visual field tests, and stereopsis tests. Based on the obtained test results, they plan and implement orthoptic training programs for amblyopia and strabismus, provide guidance on prism lens wear and lifestyle, and support the improvement of patients' visual function and enhancement of QOL. Additionally, important tasks include guidance on eyeglasses and contact lens wear, operation of inspection equipment, and collaboration with medical teams.

Future Outlook

With the progress of an aging society and the increase in lifestyle-related diseases, demand for ophthalmology care is increasing, and demand for orthoptists will steadily rise. As equipment becomes more advanced and new testing technologies are introduced, greater expertise will be required, expanding opportunities in education, research, and medical device development.
