Industry & Occupation
Classification
Summary
A technical job that manufactures parts and products by melting metal and pouring it into molds.
Description
Casting technicians are manufacturing engineers who appropriately melt metal in a melting furnace and pour it into sand molds or metal molds to produce castings. They manage raw material blending, control melting temperatures, perform molten metal treatments (degassing, modification), pouring, mold breaking after cooling, finishing through deburring and polishing, dimensional and appearance inspections, and hand over to heat treatment or machining processes as needed. Safety management, equipment maintenance, understanding material properties for high quality, and process improvements are also important tasks.
Future Outlook
In Japan's manufacturing industry, amid advancing automation and IoT adoption, casting processes require labor-saving measures and advanced quality control. Demand for specialized technicians is expected to remain stable due to high-value-added products and new technologies integrated with 3D printers.
