Classification

Summary

A profession that melts iron at high temperatures and pours it into molds to manufacture cast iron products.

Description

Cast iron workers use melting furnaces to melt iron at high temperatures, create sand molds or metal molds, pour the molten iron into the molds, and after cooling, cut off excess parts, grind, perform heat treatment, and other finishing processes to manufacture cast iron products. They also handle product quality control, furnace temperature management, application of release agents, and work safety management, covering a wide range from large to small parts. Work is performed in high-temperature, dusty, and noisy environments, requiring safety and health awareness as well as physical stamina.

Future Outlook

Due to the global advancement of automation in manufacturing, demand is flat to declining, but skilled workers will continue to be needed for high-value-added products and special alloy parts. In the future, acquiring skills in process automation and quality control using AI and IoT will be required.
