Industry & Occupation
Classification
Summary
A job that visually inspects and sorts glass products, removing defective items.
Description
Bottle sorters inspect products being conveyed on the glass product manufacturing line using visual checks or measuring instruments, removing defective items such as those that are out of specification, scratched, chipped, or cracked. They use light tables to check for cracks or bubbles with transmitted light, or measure dimensions with calipers or scales to check for deviations from standards. In addition to manual sorting, speedy visual acuity and concentration matched to the line speed are required. After sorting defective items, they may be discarded or separated for reuse according to specified methods, and create quality records or work reports.
Future Outlook
While the introduction of automatic inspection devices is progressing, there is still high demand for manual detection of minute defects. Due to aging population and labor shortages, demand for manual inspection jobs remains stable, but in the future, coexistence with automation technology will be required.
