Classification
Summary
A profession that visually inspects books and booklets after the bookbinding process, checks page order, binding strength, printing quality, etc., and sorts out defective products.
Description
Bookbinding inspectors visually inspect or use simple measuring instruments to check products such as books and booklets that have completed the printing and bookbinding processes for defects including page layout and order, binding strength, creases and misalignments, printing unevenness, and damage or dirt on the paper. They remove defective products based on specified quality standards, provide instructions for bookbinding machine adjustments or repair requests as necessary, and record and report inspection results. They may also be involved in quality improvement proposals and process management.
Future Outlook
Although print volumes are declining due to the digitalization of the printing industry and the spread of on-demand printing, demand for quality control of high-value-added bookbinding products remains stable. The introduction of image analysis-based automatic inspection equipment is progressing, and inspection operations are expected to become more automated and labor-saving.
