Body Design Engineer
しゃたいせっけいぎじゅつしゃ
Industry & Occupation
Classification
- Major : Research and Technical Occupations
- Middle : Development Engineers
- Minor : Automotive Development Engineers
Summary
Technical position responsible for designing and analyzing automotive body structures and exterior designs.
Description
Body design engineers specialize in designing the body structure and exterior shapes of automobiles. They use CAD software (CATIA, NX, etc.) to design part shapes and sheet metal processes, conduct strength analysis and crash analysis using the finite element method (FEA) to ensure the required rigidity and safety. They also consider lightweighting, cost, and manufacturability balance, select materials, examine assembly processes, and collaborate with other departments (CAE analysis department, press design, painting, manufacturing) to advance the development process.
Future Outlook
With the advancement of automotive electrification, lightweighting, and autonomous driving technologies, the demand for advanced design and analysis skills for body lightweighting and safety performance improvement is increasing. The market value of personnel who can handle new materials, hybrid vehicles, and EV vehicles will rise further in the future.
