Description
Billet cutters (gas cutting) are specialists who use cutting torches with gas mixture flames such as oxygen-acetylene to cut steel billets (semi-finished products) to specified dimensions and shapes. Before work, they mark the dimensions on the billets, adjust the torch pressure and flame, and cut at a constant speed. Inspecting the cut surface, removing burrs and slag, and preventing labor accidents through the use of safety devices and protective gear are also important tasks. In addition to being part of line work in factories, they also perform equipment maintenance and simple maintenance.
Future Outlook
While automation technologies such as plasma and laser cutting are advancing, there is still expected demand for manual gas cutting adjustments and maintenance skills.
