Barrel makers select appropriate wood such as oak, cut out and shape staves (boards), then perform fire bending or steam bending processing. Traditionally centered on manual labor, but production lines or machine tools may be used to improve work efficiency. Since it greatly influences the quality of wine and whiskey, precision and understanding of wood characteristics are required.
