Classification

Summary

An engineer who designs and develops systems combining sensors and actuators based on control theory.

Description

Automatic control device design engineers are responsible for the design and development of automatic control devices used in industrial machinery and plants. First, they select control methods (such as PID control and optimal control) based on customer requirements and specifications, and design the configuration of sensors and actuators as well as the hardware configuration. They perform operation simulations using MATLAB/Simulink, etc., to optimize control parameters. After design, they create detailed drawings using CAD software, assemble prototypes, and develop and implement control programs (PLC or embedded C language). After evaluation of prototypes and on-site installation adjustments, they perform performance verification and troubleshooting, and prepare documentation for mass production and implementation. Depending on the project, they also handle field tests and coordination and reporting with customers.

Future Outlook

With the spread of IoT and smart factories, the demand for automatic control devices is increasing, and advanced design skills are even more in demand with the introduction of AI control and predictive maintenance technologies.
