Classification

Summary

Equipment operator who fills plastic resin into molds, heats and pressurizes it to manufacture molded products.

Description

Compression molders are specialists in the molding process of plastic products. They heat the resin to an appropriate temperature using a heating device, load it into the mold, and then apply prescribed pressure with a press machine to form it. After molding, they cool and remove the product, inspect for burrs and distortions, and perform quality checks visually or with measuring instruments. They also handle mold changes, machine maintenance inspections, adjustments to molding conditions, and troubleshooting during abnormalities to stabilize line operations.

Future Outlook

Amid the introduction of IoT and automation equipment, demand for skilled workers remains high. Although labor shortages due to declining birthrates and aging population pose challenges, it is expected to have promising prospects as a profession that can leverage automation and labor-saving technologies.
