Classification

Summary

A technical position that designs and optimizes processes for mass and efficient production of amino acids using microorganisms, enzymes, and chemical synthesis, and operates and manages production equipment.

Description

Amino acid production engineers develop and operate processes to produce target amino acids at high yields using fermentation methods, enzyme reactions, and chemical synthesis. They conduct screening of cultured microorganisms, strain optimization using genetic engineering techniques, and design/optimization of medium composition and reaction conditions (temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, etc.). Furthermore, they handle operation control of bioreactors, purification through downstream processes (cell removal, chromatography, crystallization, etc.), and quality control and analytical testing based on GMP. They continuously implement process improvements for scaling up production, cost reduction, and from perspectives of safety and environmental impact. Team collaboration and coordination with related departments (quality control, equipment maintenance, regulatory compliance) are required, and learning new methods and automation technologies is necessary amid technological innovations.

Future Outlook

In addition to the expansion of health-oriented trends and the supplement market, amino acid demand will remain steady due to advances in biotechnology and synthesis technologies. Process sophistication and responses to sustainability are required, and demand for engineers with engineering and automation skills is expected to increase.
